On May 7, Mr. Fan Xuecheng, Chargé d’Affaires ad Interim of the Chinese Embassy in Uganda, attended the commissioning of food distribution under the China-Funded Emergency Humanitarian Assistance Project (CHAP) in Nakivale Refugee Settlement. Ms. Jane Nantale, Undersecretary for Refugees and Disaster Management of the Office of the Prime Minister of Uganda, local government officials, representatives of the project implementer, as well as UNHCR, WFP and other UN agencies in Uganda were present at the event.

Mr. Fan pointed out that this assistance represents an important step in delivering the outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), and in implementing the Global Development Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative. China maintains that conflicts and violence are the root causes of large-scale displacement, and consistently supports the peaceful settlement of disputes through political dialogue. China appreciates Uganda’s humanitarian contributions and supports Uganda in playing a greater role in international and regional affairs, so as to jointly provide Global South solutions to global challenges.

Representatives from the Ugandan side and relevant UN agencies sincerely thanked the Chinese government for its role as a responsible major country in upholding international peace and development, and for its valuable support for Uganda’s humanitarian cause.
