On October 15, Ambassador Wu Guangrong met with committee members of the China Alumni Association in Uganda (CAAU), led by its President, Doreen Akunda.

The committee briefed Ambassador Wu on the association’s history and activities. He commended Ugandans who had studied in China for their achievements in various fields since returning home and their contributions to Uganda’s modernization and China-Uganda friendship and cooperation. He described young people as a driving force for national development and the future of China-Uganda friendship. He encouraged the association to use the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges as an opportunity to explore new ways to collaborate, strengthen youth exchanges and bring the two peoples closer together.

Drawing on their experiences of studying in China and working in Uganda, Akunda and her fellow committee members offered suggestions for strengthening alumni networks, organizing cultural activities and expanding digital media collaboration. Akunda thanked China for its zero-tariff policy for Africa, which has helped Ugandan coffee and other quality products expand their presence in the Chinese market. She said the association was keen to continue serving as a bridge between the two countries, sharing members’ firsthand stories of Uganda-China cooperation and encouraging more young people to participate in bilateral exchanges and cooperation.
