On September 30, Ambassador Wu Guangrong attended the “Bringing Chinese Culture into Schools” and “Chinese Culture Day” event at Crested Secondary School as part of the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges. More than 300 people attended, including Muzoora Juliet Atuhire, Commissioner for Secondary Education at Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports; Tang Fei, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at Makerere University; and the school’s principal, director, teachers and students.

Ambassador Wu noted that the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges has featured a rich variety of activities, while people-to-people exchanges and educational cooperation between China and Uganda continue to deepen. He encouraged the students to make the most of the opportunities of their time and develop a deeper understanding of China, becoming envoys of China-Africa friendship, bridges for mutually beneficial cooperation and guardians of the strategic partnership, and contributing their youthful energy to putting the four global initiatives into practice.

Atuhire thanked China for its longstanding and strong support for Chinese-language education in Uganda. Drawing on the educational principles advocated by UNESCO, she encouraged teachers and students to learn Chinese and learn about China, thereby broadening their horizons and embracing the wider world and advances in science and technology.

The event featured cultural performances and activities introducing Chinese calligraphy and painting, traditional attire and cuisine. The Chinese medical team in Uganda also showcased traditional Chinese medicine.
