On 13nd August, Minister-Counsellor Fan Xuecheng delivered remarks at an Immigration Policy Exchange jointly organized by the China Chamber of Commerce in Uganda and Uganda’s Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control. Counsellor Wang Jianxun also attended the event. Acting Chief Citizenship and Immigration Control Officer Geoffrey Brian Kambere, officials from the Directorate, and representatives of Chinese enterprises and the Chinese community in Uganda were present.

Fan noted that in recent years, the China-Uganda Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership has continued to deliver new outcomes, while the number of Chinese nationals coming to Uganda for investment, trade and tourism has continued to grow. He encouraged Chinese companies and nationals in Uganda to strictly abide by Ugandan laws and regulations, properly handle visas, work permits and other immigration formalities, and further enhance localized operations. He expressed the hope that the Ugandan side would strengthen policy outreach and communication, ensure fair, transparent and law-based immigration enforcement, effectively safeguard the lawful rights and interests of Chinese nationals, and foster a more transparent and facilitative environment for Chinese companies and nationals to work and live in Uganda.

The Ugandan side spoke highly of the positive contribution made by Chinese companies and nationals to Uganda’s economic and social development, briefed participants on the latest immigration policies, work permit requirements and other compliance matters, and responded to questions raised at the event.
