On July 9, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Fan Xuecheng met with Uganda’s Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Kasule Lumumba. Counsellor Wang Jianxun of the Embassy, Minister of State for Information Hon. Joyce Ssebugwawo, and Under Secretary Sophia Nantongo attended the meeting.

Fan thanked Lumumba for her strong and consistent support to China-Uganda cooperation. He noted that China and Uganda enjoy a time-honoured friendship and fruitful practical cooperation. China stands ready to deepen cooperation with Uganda in information and communications technology and other fields, and hopes that Uganda will provide a favourable policy environment for Chinese companies investing and operating in the country.

Lumumba recalled her involvement in developing Uganda-China relations. She said the National Resistance Movement and the Communist Party of China, as well as Uganda and China, share a deep traditional friendship. She expressed her readiness to further advance practical cooperation between the two countries in her new role, and welcomed more Chinese companies to invest in Uganda, create jobs for Ugandan youth, and contribute to the country’s economic and social development.
