On April 24, 2026, Mr. Fan Xuecheng, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Uganda, attended the 2026 International Chinese Language Day celebration themed "Chinese: Lighting Up Colorful Dreams" at the Sino-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park.

Joining the event were Mr. Wopuwa George, Regional Council Chairperson of Uganda, Ms. Joyce Kidulu, Mayor of Mbale, teachers and students from the Confucius Institute at Makerere University, along with over a hundred Ugandan Chinese language enthusiasts. All participants immersed themselves in the charm of Chinese culture.

Chargé d’Affaires Fan Xuecheng stated that the Chinese language is the key to unlock 5,000 years of Chinese civilization and an important bridge for mutual learning and exchanges among world civilizations. Mastering Chinese not only fosters a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and development concepts but also helps individuals explore the successful experiences of China's modernization.

Noting that this year marks the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, he expressed hope that young people from both countries would seize this opportunity to further strengthen exchanges and communication. He emphasized the importance of jointly advancing the deepening and consolidation of China-Uganda relations, thereby contributing more to the two nations’ shared progress toward modernization.

The event featured a rich array of activities, including performances of Chinese and Ugandan folk songs and dances, as well as interactive cultural experience zones for calligraphy, Hanfu, tea ceremony, and traditional Chinese musical instruments. The atmosphere was joyful and vibrant throughout the celebration.
