On April 16, Chargé d’Affaires ad Interim Fan Xuecheng attended the concluding workshop of Phase III of the FAO-China-Uganda South-South Cooperation Project. Present at the event were Hon. Minister Frank Tumwebaze of the Ugandan Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, along with officials from the FAO, Counselor Wang Jianxun from the Embassy, representatives from China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and Chinese project experts.

Chargé d’Affaires Fan pointed out that agricultural cooperation has consistently been a key component of the China-Africa cooperation initiatives under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). He noted that Phase III has successfully promoted the commercialization of hybrid rice and the large-scale implementation of rice-fish integrated farming in Uganda. By facilitating the transfer of advanced Chinese agricultural technologies, the project has benefited over 100,000 local Ugandan farmers and was honored with the FAO Outstanding Contribution Award, serving as a global model for South-South cooperation. Guided by the spirit of FOCAC, China will continue to deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership with Uganda, advance Uganda’s agricultural industrialization, and support the realization of Uganda Vision 2040.

Hon. Minister Frank Tumwebaze thanked the Chinese government for its long-term support, fully recognized the fruitful results of Phase III, and expressed hope that the two sides will further join hands to promote the high-quality development of China-Uganda agricultural cooperation.
