2026 Chinese New Year Festival Temple Fair & Launch Ceremony of China-Uganda Year of People-to-People Exchanges

On February 8th, the Chinese New Year Festival Temple Fair and the Launch Ceremony of China-Uganda Year of People-to-People Exchanges were successfully held in Kampala. Nearly 10,000 people attended the event including the Ugandan Vice President H.E. Jessica Alupo, the Charge d' Affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy Mr. Fan Xuecheng, local people from all fields and representatives from diplomatic corps and international organizations, etc.

Mr. Fan noted that President Xi Jinping, together with leaders of African countries, designated 2026 as the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, which is an important measure to deepen the friendship between China and Africa. The Spring Festival is a shared celebration for Chinese people worldwide and a global intangible cultural heritage. The temple fair, serving as the opening ceremony of the China-Uganda Year of People-to-People Exchanges, will significantly enrich comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.

Alupo extended new year greetings to Chinese people on behalf of President Museveni and the First Lady, and said Uganda wishes to take the Year of People-to-People Exchanges as an opportunity to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two countries, and continuously improve the bilateral coordination.

At the event, the Embassy also gave out the “New Year Gift Packages” to overseas Chinese compatriots, sensitized the compatriots on consular protection and assistance, and put up a booth for charity sales.
