On June 27, 2025, Minister-Counsellor Fan Xuecheng of the Chinese Embassy in Uganda visited Gulu University at the invitation of the university. He met with Professor Openjuru L. George, Vice Chancellor of the university, and held discussions with faculty representatives on China’s foreign policy, China-Uganda relations, and educational cooperation.
Minister-Counsellor Fan stated that the successful convening of the Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators on the implementation of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation has injected new impetus into China and Uganda’s joint efforts to implement the Ten Partnership Actions. He noted that China encourages deeper cooperation between higher education institutions, and warmly welcomes more young Ugandans to pursue their studies and training in China, so as to contribute to the passing down of China-Uganda friendship from generation to generation.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Openjuru expressed his gratitude for China’s long-standing support to Uganda’s education sector. He spoke highly of the cooperation between China and Uganda in education and people-to-people exchanges, and stated that Gulu University is committed to encouraging more Ugandan youth to learn about China’s modernization achievements and actively participate in Uganda-China friendship and cooperation.
