On June 18, the Chinese Ambassador to Uganda H.E Zhang Lizhong and Uganda's Minister for Karamoja Affairs Hon. Peter Lokerisattended the Rice Aid Distribution Ceremony in Kotido District of Karamoja region. Together with officials from the Office of the Prime Minister and the World Food Programme (WFP), they distributed China-donated rice to the locals. The food assistance is expected to benefit more than 60,000 vulnerable people across nine districts in Karamoja.
Ambassador Zhang emphasized that China upholds the principle of "both giving people fish and teaching them how to fish" in its development cooperation. In addition to providing emergency food assistance, China actively supports Africa in addressing food security challenges through agricultural technology cooperation.|He introduced the important measures to promote the cooperation with African countries announced at the Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators on the Implementation of the follow-up Actions of FOCAC.He stressed that China will contribute certainty to the Global South and the world economy through its commitment to high-level opening-up and high-quality development.
Minister Peter Lokeris reviewed the remarkable changes that have taken place in the Karamoja region over the past decades and expressed gratitude to China and other development partners for their strong support. He also expressed hope for strengthened exchanges and mutual learning with China in the future.
